The Norwood Seniors Network (NSN) is a community outreach program that provides nutritional, recreational and transportation services, along with other forms of assistance to older adults living independently on the northwest side of Chicago and adjacent suburbs.
With a range of services that meet the needs of independent seniors who desire to remain in the community, NSN reaches out and helps them maintain their health and independence safely. One of the current trends in caring for older adults is developing services and support systems, which allows people to age-in-place. In many instances, this assistance enables program participants to delay entrance into senior living communities.
History
The Norwood Seniors Network is an operating division of Nor-Wood Life Care NFP. This organization was founded in 1896 to provide service to Chicago's elderly. Over the years, we have undergone many changes that began with the Norwood Park Home, an established community that offers a full range of health care services. In 1994, a feasibility study was undertaken to establish an outreach program to offer home-based services as a natural extension of facility-based care. The Norwood Seniors Network was created to answer identified needs in the community. We believe that the best manner in which to serve others is to first listen to them, and then design programs to meet the needs expressed by those we serve. The current services offered by the Seniors Network are based on thoughts shared by community residents in focus groups. This information helped us to identify the needs of our target population in the community as well as how we might meet those needs. |
